Anyone looking for a good book to read or listen to? I have the ultimate recommendation to fire you up for the new year.
Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis is an incredibly well written kick in the pants! If you have ever wanted more for your life but didn’t know where to start, Rach is your girl. Centered around continuous self-improvement and reaching for more, Rachel talks about what’s held her back from living to her potential.
There are lies living in our subconscious that we don’t even know are there. Lies that tell you you aren’t good enough or strong enough or you are too young, old, fat or woman to do this thing. You may not think you have this dialogue circulating in your mind but I can assure you you do. As you read or listen to her breakdown the lie in her own life, you will feel them unravel in yours.
You can buy the book on Amazon here:
I have recommended this book to 5 other women who said they stumbled across the book but had passed on it because they thought that it might only apply if they had kids (which they don’t). I convinced them to read it anyway because the message is so powerful. All of them texted me within the first 3 chapters to tell me how amazing the book was.
She doesn’t gently massage her message and tell you it’s all going to be OK. She tells her story, shows how it related to you, gives you some grace and then kicks your butt into action and gives ownership and accountability for your life back to you. She is the friend who keeps it real and tells you how it is because that is how you get past and conquer hard things.
I had no less than three physical reactions per chapter. I laughed, cried, jaw dropped in shock. I have had so many “aha” moments. Every chapter, even the ones that I didn’t think would apply to me totally did. There were so many stories that I kept thinking “OMG! I have SO been there!” She pushes you to think past your limitations and want more than you ever though possible.
Listening to this book instead of reading the paper version made it so much easier to consume and made it feel like Rachel was talking to me. I listened to it once, and then again, and then two more times. Then I listened to it again on a business trip when I was alone in a hotel room where I was finally able to do some of the exercises she recommends. That was the night that Do Own Live Love was born. I was so pumped about tackling the thing that has been pulling at me for so long that I just did it, that night!
I still find myself re-listening to this book or referring to the highlights I made in the text when I need a pick me up! My favorite chapter is Chapter 6 “The Lie: No is the Final Answer.” followed by a close second Chapter 10: “The Lie: I Should Be Farther Along By Now.”
Later I found out that by subscribing to her email list on her website, https://www.thehollisco.com/, you can get a self study guide for free to use as you walk through this book. That seals the deal! This is the most applicable and action insighting book I have ever come across!
